From George Washington (especially) to Barack (My Guy) Obama, we seriously have to thank these guys for another day off from our stressful college lives.
Aside from Spring Break that will soon arrive, President’s Day is a break we can add onto our list of things to look forward to during the spring semester. There are so many things we could be doing just by having one less school day to worry about. Some of us are probably picking up an extra shift, maybe getting shitfaced on a Sunday night, filling out FAFSA, or catching up all ten chapters that was supposed to have been read by now! However, if you’re like me (alone, introverted, a home body, and the perfect depiction of laziness) then you’re probably just staying in bed all day doing whatever it is that makes you happy. For me, I love to bounce back among all my social media apps to help stay creative and stay in the loop of the tea out there.
YouTube will help you waste your whole day of presidents away…
There are only so many tweets to look at, photos to scroll through, and snaps to creep on. BUT, YouTube is seriously where its at. Simply getting lost (in the sauce) in videos that last anywhere between one minute to thirty, depending on what you watch. While you have allowed yourself to read this far into the article and think, “When the hell does this guy begin to talk about the ponies doing musicals?” please understand that I’m finally here.
The Ponies Doing Musicals gained mild popularity around the time it was uploaded back in 2009. Just because it’s twelve years later doesn’t mean that it’s too late to get back in the loop. I’m scrolling through a video thread on twitter, and I see a two minute clip of a live mint blue pony with colorful hair in front of a magical fantasy back drop. At first you’d expect a high pitch voice belting out lyrics like, “Clouds are pretty, rainbows are cool! // I love ice cream, what about you?” NO (insert iMessage “slam” effect). This pretty pony is suddenly a performing pony! She’s lip syncing along to “I Am Telling You” from Dream Girls with all of her heart and soul. She was saaaaanginnn’. It’s hilarious, you can clearly see that the person in the costume was neglecting the pony’s hind legs. So she looks like she’s floating.
It doesn’t stop there. I look through the tweets that responded the video, and it’s the same thing but seven minutes longer including a second musical number.
This time it’s with TWO ponies performing, “Gravity” from Wicked. To be honest with you, some tears were shed. There’s something about this material that gives me absolute hope about the seemingly sporadic, yet ingenious creativity in this world. We’re already in 2017, and even though I’m drawing a blank right now I’m pretty sure we, as creative Americans, have progressed since then. Some creative accomplishments I’ve noticed so far is “Tiny Trump” or anything that involves “Tammy Laryngitis.” I would love to see the ponies lip sync over a segment from “The Blaze” while appearing to drink tequila, or even lip syncing over one of Donald Trump’s speeches while chilling out down in the pits of hell. Whatever it is, I’ll stand behind it 100%.
