Lena Dunham’s famed show finally returns on February 12 for its final season. Will the Girls finally figure it out?
HBO’s Girls is most certainly one of the most controversial shows on right now, or rather, Lena Dunham’s character, Hannah Horvath just has really questionable morals.
The four main characters, Hannah, Marnie (Allison Williams), Jessa (Jemima Kirke), and Shoshanna (Zosia Mamet), have been trying to figure out how to lead their lives successfully for five seasons now. The audience has seen these women in some of the worst television relationships ever, dancing in the fake Hamptons, feuding at parties, and generally just doing things that would make most people cringe.
But what is going to happen in this final season? Will they end up happy in the end or will they continue to go on miserably?
I was lucky enough to attend Inside the Actors Studio with the cast so, I have a few predictions based on their comments.*
*Disclaimer: if you have not watched Girls and plan to, do not read this post; I will probably give some information that happened in past seasons away.*
I think that Hannah will finally get back to writing. She has been living her quirky life for long enough now that she has to have something to write in her essays. By now, her contract with the publisher who died has expired. So, technically she’s *~free~* to publish wherever she wants.
Hannah will probably get a new boyfriend. Hopefully, he’s not as awful to her as Adam initially was and she doesn’t feel the need to run away from him like she did with Fran. Hannah will hopefully find some kind of happiness with someone– even if that someone is a cat. I think Hannah would like a cat.
Marnie is the most uptight one in the bunch, but her life was derailed a bit with her relationship with Desi. She will probably force all of the other women to make nice and all be friends again, because that’s who she is. She isn’t one to really let go and be calm. Marnie will probably land a record deal, because her voice is amazing. She’s way too hardworking to not figure something out.
Marnie may be the one to surprise us though. She may totally let go and Hannah could have to reign her in. That would seriously be a twist. Either way, Marnie is going to surprise us somehow. Maybe she’ll marry Ray. Who knows?!
Jessa has changed the most in the show. She went from being an entirely free spirit, to having a serious boyfriend and aspirations of becoming a therapist. Jessa will most definitely fulfill her goal of becoming a therapist, but will she be able to start her own practice with Adam’s acting career becoming more and more serious? I am not sure if she will be able to stay with Adam if their lives seriously diverge professionally.
No one really wants them to breakup, but at the same time, I do. I think Adam belongs with Hannah. That being said, I think Hannah and Jessa will mend their friendship. Jessa admires Hannah greatly, even if she doesn’t show it, and there is no way she will let their friendship slip through her fingers.
Oh, Shosh. I love Shoshanna; she is my favorite character. She wants the best for herself and for her friends. Shoshanna will definitely get sick of their antics though as she finds another job and professional friends in the city. Shosh will move away from the other women as she realizes she has a ton of potential to do great things.
Shoshanna may move on to new, more mature friends, but she won’t forget her crazier days. She did move to Tokyo on a bit of a whim, so I can’t imagine her becoming a complete square. Shoshanna will still be her usual quirky self, but she will have the confidence to truly speak her mind– sober that is.
