The potential spin-off could be based off of George R. R. Martin’s ‘Tales of Dunk and Egg.’
With ‘Game of Thrones’ ending after its eighth season, HBO executives are now looking to the future. Rumors are now circulating that HBO executives are engaging in early discussions on the potential possibility of turning more of George R. R. Martin’s library into television.
While speaking at the Television Critics Association press tour, current HBO President of Original Programming, Casey Bloys, fielded questions regarding a prequel/spin-off.
“All I can say is that we’re exploring it,” Bloys said. “We don’t have any scripts, we’re not even close to saying ‘Oh let’s do this.’ But it’s a big enough property that we would be foolish not to explore it. It’s a really rich world. We’d be foolish not to look at it.”
Details are sparce at this time though speculation is that the potential spin-off could focus on Martin’s ‘Tales of Dunk and Egg,’ which exists 90 years before the events of the ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’ novels. ‘Tales of Dunk and Egg’ follows the adventures of “Dunk” (the future commander of the Kingsguard and “Egg” (the future king Aegon V Targaryen).
