On “Let Me Pray,” Orlando artist Kim shows a versatile vocal prowess with the ability to quickly flip between rapid-fire raps to melodic singing on his tracks with a keen sensibility for maintaining his pitch across various tempos.
When do you find yourself at your most creative?
Kim: The creation process usually starts in my car. I get some pretty ill beats sent to me and was blessed with this one. I jam em loud and start spitting to the vibe. It gave me a Houston chopped and screwed feel, like pushing a oldschool, a donk through yo hood, Miami shit.
What’s this song about and who’s this song for?
Kim: It seems like with every win, every step I get deeper into the “industry,” gains come at a cost, a loss. This song helps me express that loss, and at what that cost may be. Sometimes it’s a life, sometimes it’s a friendship, or sometimes even our own conscious. Nonetheless, stay alert and keep your head on a swivel, there’s always evils around you, and sometimes when you can’t handle it all, all you can do is pray. “Let Me Pray” is for anyone who’s been struggling with seeing the truth, or lack thereof, and trying to find the strength to get through it. Occasionally all we see are lies and deception, and on occasion it can be the bitter truth. They both can kill.
Is there a video planned?
Kim: Yes there is, we should be shooting later this month so look out for it.
Biggest obstacle you’ve had to overcome?
Kim: The biggest obstacle I’ve had to overcome was the death of my father. I do this in his name, that’s how I keep him alive. It’s been my gift and my curse but I’m a better man for it.
What next? Plans for 2017 – a project, tour?
Kim: Next is A LOT of music from me. Seeking Forever is coming in January. That’s the EP, and the album’s right behind her.
“Let Me Pray” is the first single from Kim’s Seeking Forever EP, which is set to release in the 1st quarter of 2017. “Anyone can tell you about my loyalty and the awareness I look to bring and what I seek,” he says. “It’s not for money, or fame. It’s for knowledge, that’s the real power. The more you know, the more aware, the more empowered one is to help the next individual. Live life to get closer to our humanitarianism. Live to be better forever.” Make sure to keep your eyes and ears open for more music coming from Kim as he’s surely an artist to watch in 2017 and beyond.
