No one likes a cheater, not even a penguin.
The entire Internet lost it the other day after National Geographic posted a video of a male penguin returned home to his nest to find his female partner with another penguin. The poor guy returned from fishing, waddling around, or doing whatever these lil’ flightless birds do only to find his penguin wife doing the deed with someone else in his own nest. He made a horrific noise that could only mean heartbreak.
me: i hate drama its unnecessary
national geographic: fight breaks out when a husband comes home & finds his wife with another penguin

The home-wrecker and the husband penguin duel it out in an unfortunately bloody battle. Like actually, it is really bloody. Do not watch the video if you are at all squeamish. Wings are flapping, and beaks are stabbing eyes out. It is actually horrifying. The penguins end their fight in a stalemate, but it only gets worse from there. The two call out to the female to see who she wants. She picks the home-wrecker over her husband. *Gasp* It’s like a soap opera or a telenovela. The husband penguin waddles away, his bloodied beak to the ground. It’s low-key heartbreaking.
in the end of the day the dude penguin is gonna find someone who appreciates him for who he is and mrs. penguin is gonna realise her mistake

And here come the memes.
This wild animal fight is a little too graphic and shocking for the Internet to not say anything about it. The memes and Tweets started rolling out just hours after National Geographic posted the video. People started going crazy over this penguin fight. Maybe it’s because no one ever thinks animals have feelings. I mean they do, obviously as we can see from this example.

This penguin fight is not officially a meme like Pepe or the kid with the sweater, but Twitter is really hyping up the battle. There are several accounts that are posting as the wife, the husband, and the home-wrecking penguin. The three are constantly Tweeting at each other and have a collective 16,125 followers. It is slightly ridiculous, but at the same time, hilarious.
Celebrities and verified accounts keep Tweeting about the fight so it just makes everyone else want to participate. Mostly everyone has been siding with the husband penguin, but there are some asking for the other side. I’m not really sure what people are looking to get from that, they are after all just penguins. We obviously can’t get any type of backstory. It is hilarious nonetheless.
Who would’ve thought that this dramatic animal kingdom fight would’ve been such a huge Internet joke so quickly? After all, animals fight every second. Maybe it is just that we don’t really think of animals being so love hurt by each other enough to fight about it. No matter what the reasoning is for the obsession with this heartbreakingly ridiculous video is hilarious, but let’s hope that the Internet doesn’t take it too far.
