This past Thursday fans from all over Colorado and beyond flocked to the Fox Theater in Boulder to catch a glimpse of one of music’s most intriguing producers, Brillz.
Prior to his show I had the opportunity to have a brief chat with the man himself about his craziest tour story, favorite cereal and more.
The Internet has obviously become an integral part of the music industry, how do you feel it has helped or hurt the content of music?
Brillz: I think that it’s a bit of a double-edged sword. It has definitely helped the overall content of music in my opinion. While many people say the saturation and overwhelming amount of content is a bad thing, that is exactly what pushes innovation and forces artists and producers alike to want to stand out even more. The problem is with so much new content, the audience has developed this A.D.D where new content only stay relevant for an extremely short time span.
What are some of your passions outside of music?
Craziest tour story?
Brillz: Well, I won’t name names for obvious reasons, but once I saw a very well-known DJ who I was playing a show with that night, pee into a cup on stage. He did it under the booth onstage and didn’t bend over or anything. I mean you can’t really walk away from your set if you need to use the restroom, but he did it so nonchalantly it was crazy, didn’t miss a beat. To me, that’s way crazier than anything I’ve seen as far as girls, drugs or anything like that.
Favorite breakfast cereal? Also, do you pour the milk or cereal first?
Brillz: Cinnamon Toast Crunch. I always go cereal first, I didn’t even know milk first was a thing. That’s psycho shit.
Finally, how would you describe your music to someone that has never heard it before?
Brillz: Oh that’s always tough. I’d have to say alien visitors throwing a block party in the hood. Or something like that. Everyone has their own interpretation though.
If you’re curious about what an alien block party might sound like, I’d encourage you to go check out one of Brillz’s insane shows. Next up for the twonk-master is EDC in Orlando, Florida this weekend. You can stay up on all things Brillz by following him on Facebook, or you can simply take a trip to space by giving him a listen below. Either way, you’re in for something quite literally out of this world.
