If thirteen hours of house and techno in the heart of San Francisco seems like an elusive dream, then you unfortunately just missed music history. On October 8th, Outerlimits Festival, hosted by record label Smoke N’ Mirrors, Up All Night SF, and The Great Northern venue, boasted an eclectic lineup of some of the most renowned DJ’s in the game.
From Catz ‘n Dogz to Navid Izadi and Dixon, the insurmountable talent consumed the venue like wildfire. Beginning mid-day around 3pm, guests flocked to the gourmet food trucks while bouncing to the rhythm of some warm up tunes. Outerlimits gained momentum as the sun receded in the distance and the chilly SF night brought friends further into the intimate alcoves of the venue. The music was something from another planet, with melodic geniuses spinning back to back to back to back.
Check out the insane lineup from Outerlimits:
At around 1:30am, the spotlight shown spectacularly on none other than Resident Advisor ranked #1 DJ of 2015, Dixon. Other known as Steffen Berkhahn, the brilliant Berliner stunned us with his grace, passion, and precision. RA stated: “Whether it’s your thing or not, Dixon’s cinematic sound is utterly unmistakable, and he delivers it with gusto in cities around the world every weekend.” The two and a half hour set undoubtedly left us picking up our jaws from the floor as we shuffled out of the venue.
As the night progressed, even the hidden beauty of The Great Northern revealed itself through art deco-inspired designs like floor-to-ceiling mirrors and golden chandeliers: think The Great Gatsby. Previously known as the nightclub Mighty, the founders of beloved Monarch recently revamped the space and reopened its doors with a Thugfucker, Galen, Shiny Objects, and DJ M3 party last month. With stained glass windows shimmering behind a generously-sized bar and an unforgettable sound system, The Great Northern might just become your new favorite place to boogie.
We look forward to many more late nights and early mornings with the Smoke N’ Mirrors and Up All Night gang, as well as The Great Northern. Be sure to stay up to date on events through their Facebook page.
