The democratic party rolled into town on Monday, October 14th with musician Dave Matthews in tow.
Tim Kaine brought his campaign trail to Denver, Colorado this week at the National Western Complex. The event consisted of an inspiring round of speeches from democratic party supporters and volunteers, followed by an emotive performance from Dave Matthews. There were roaring cheers and an enthusiastic welcome from the people of Colorado.
A large crowd of approximately 1,500 people gathered at the National Western Complex for the half democratic rally and half rock concert. Preceding the music, several speakers took the stage to set the mood and rev up support and enthusiasm for the the Clinton Kaine ticket. Virginia senator, Tim Kaine, had a lot to say in support of democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton and her lifelong mission of advocacy for children and families.
Throughout the night, Kaine and other speakers drew several comparisons between Clinton and her running mate, Donald Trump. The crude things Trump has said throughout this campaign regarding both minorities and the rights of women are in stark contrast to the opinions and fight that Clinton has put up and will continue to do if elected. Kaine supported Clinton’s opinions saying that Trump has offended women, “virtually every time he opens his mouth” and that “real men are not that way”.
Kaine also highlighted Clinton’s tactfulness in regard to the recent debate in which Trump brought up his strange end goal of having his running mate jailed if he was to elected. Clinton handled the debate in a very different way highlighting her fight for what matters in this country. Kaine ended his speech with the promise that the day Clinton is elected she will forget about Trump. This statement was met by rallying cries of support.
Prior to Senator Kaine taking the stage, Dave Matthews played an acoustic set for the rally attendees. He played several songs, including some well known tunes such as, “Ants Marching” and “One Sweet World”. Some of Matthew’s songs speak to themes of hope and peace. He alludes to this idea when he said, “It would be good if we included a little spending on peace, on feeding people”.
As Kaine mentioned at one point, Dave Matthew’s is not only a musician with a message, but he also a consistent supporter of the democratic party and an activist on his own time. Matthews’ is a huge supporter of Bama Works, a fund that supports charitable programs in the Charlottesville, Virginia area and beyond.
The rally was a definite success. As Kaine boasted, “[Colorado has] the highest voter registration and nearly the highest voter turnout of any state in this country”. Now it’s time to live up to that reputation. Make sure you’re registered, and most important, get out there and VOTE!
