BANKS puts it all out on the table with her newly released LP “The Altar”.
Jillian Banks is the queen of harnessing emotion in an ethereal and other-worldly way. The new 13 song LP is a collection of bitter love poems and emotionally stripped dark, electro-pop anthems. BANKS prior album, Goddess, was also a display of raw emotion with songs like “Drowning” and “Waiting Game”. This time around BANKS shows tremendous growth with this profoundly powerful new release that boasts themes of self-affirmation, finding your own strength, femininity and getting the hell over a past relationship.
The first single from the album “F— With Myself” is a perfect setup for the rest of the album. “ So I f— with myself more than anybody else/ It’s all love/ I used to care what you think about me/ It’s all love” BANKS’ lyrics cry out with need for self-affirmation in the most refreshingly honest way. R&B goddess released the music video for “F— With Myself” in July as a teaser for her upcoming album (check it out below). Other standout songs from the LP are the euphoric “Gemini Feed” and the painfully evocative “To the Hilt”.
As the weather begins to get colder and the winter season is creeping upon us, “The Altar” is a perfect mix soundtrack for those gloomy days. BANKS reminds us that there is power in weakness. We’re worshiping at your altar girl, keep it up.
