The saga of Colin Kaepernick and his protest against racial inequality is universally known by now.
Movements such as third-wave feminism and Black Lives Matter have become impossible to criticize without being labeled as a bigot. Concepts such as safe-spaces and microaggressions are overwhelmingly popular, particularly with millennials. The rise of political correctness that often can be equated with censorship encompasses the disturbing culture of victimhood, which values the visceral rather than the intellect. Victimhood culture is not only immoral, it’s also dangerous. It teaches minorities that white people own all of the power and privilege, thus creating further racial tension. It teaches women that they’re being oppressed by an all powerful patriarchy. Victimhood culture thrives on peddling false narratives and instigating racial and gender tensions. And now, victimhood culture has new poster-boy.
The saga of Colin Kaepernick and his protest against racial inequality is universally known by now. Amidst the controversy, Kaepernick has been praised by the mainstream media and even by the President himself for refusing to stand up during the Pledge of Allegiance. Yet while Kaepernick claims that his country is oppressing people of color, Kaepernick himself is making a salary of nineteen million dollars a year. Sixty-eight percent of NFL players are African-Americans, all of whom are paid handsomely by the NFL. Popular movie stars like Will Smith, world famous musicians like Beyonce, and even the President of the United States himself are all African-American, yet according to Kaepernick the Jim Crow era is still alive.
Kaepernick’s foolish comment to NFL.com that “people are getting away with murder” evokes the rhetoric of Black Lives Matter, the most dangerous hate group in America. As a political activist movement, Black Lives Matter has done nothing but escalate racial tension. It threatens to derail the progress that Martin Luther King made for racial equality, and makes straw-men out of the police and white people. It peddles the false narrative that police are specifically targeting young black men, despite the fact that there is no racial bias in police shootings according to an African-American Harvard professor. Black Lives Matter has pushed for segregated safe spaces for colored people only and many of its supporters have advocated for the murders of cops and white people on social media.
There are serious problems that are inflicting the black community. Black on black crime is a major problem, as ninety percent of black homicide victims are killed by other blacks. The black illegitimacy rate is now seventy-five percent. More young African Americans are growing up without a father than ever before. The unemployment rate for young black teens is thirty-nine percent at a national level, which is double of the percentage of unemployment rate of white teens. As a result, young black kids are forced to sell drugs in order to survive. These are real problems that the black community is facing. Yet the Black Lives Matter movement does not care about any of these issues and only means to push racial divide.
The most common misconception about Black Lives Matter is that all of its critics are inherently racist. This is simply not the case. Black Lives Matter is a political activist movement, not a race. Those who criticize feminism aren’t inherently sexist either, as feminism is also a political activist movement and not a gender. And while Black Lives Matter advocates preach hatred and bigotry towards whites, the group is harmful to blacks as well. Black Lives Matter encompasses the worst of victimhood culture, as it peddles false narratives and only exacerbates racial tension.
