If there’s one type of food I’d think wouldn’t make sense as a dessert… it’s hummus.
To be honest, I love hummus. I like it in a falafel, on a sandwich or even with carrots and celery. I first started to crave hummus after tasting the real authentic stuff when I traveled to Israel. There’s absolutely nothing like it. However, hummus is the one food I would not add into or have as my dessert. This is mainly because the texture of hummus just doesn’t seem right to me as a dessert (I think any kind of a dip/filling in a dessert should be creamy!) It just has such a savory taste that goes perfectly with red peppers!
So, why is this food becoming the next biggest dessert trend? How are people eating it and what makes it taste so good?
The trend started from various blogger recipes and started to become more popular when people figured out that there was a way to actually purchase the stuff. The dessert hummus was created by a company called Delighted By. Not only is the product vegetarian but it’s also Gluten Free! The company has said that they have the “original dessert hummus”. It even comes in four flavors: brownie batter, snickerdoodle, orange-ginger, and chocolate chip. Even with their delicious flavors, each spread still contains garbanzo beans and tahini and to give it that sweet dessert taste, a sugary finish is added to the mix.
You can add it into a parfait, dip pretzels in it for a salty-sweet treat or spread some on a piece of toast with sliced fruit! All you have to do now is try it. I know that after seeing some photos online for myself, the next step is to hunt the stuff down! You can find, order and try Delighted By for yourself on their website at, www.delightedbyhummus.com
