The mother-daughter duo will return, airing as a Netflix original.
Our hearts broke when Rory turned down Logan’s proposal back in 2007. But perhaps we now have a good reason to wipe away our tears. Rumors began to swell early last fall that our favorite mother- daughter duo might be returning to the small screen or the even smaller screen. Netflix recently confirmed these rumors guaranteeing that the Loreleais will live on. Unfortunately, they failed to provide fans with many details. Netflix failed to let on just how many episodes of the new series are in the works and when the revival will actually air.
While many of our favorite characters will be returning for the revival such as Luke, Kirk, and Emily, sadly others will not. It is very unlikely that Sookie St. James (played by Melissa McCarthy) will be making an appearance. Some speculate that her career has gotten “too big” to return back to the show.
The original creator Amy Sherman-Paladino and producer Daniel Paladino will write and direct the entirety of the new Netflix series. Sherman-Paladino left the show’s final and seventh season in the aftermath of a contract dispute. This Netflix reboot has allowed her the unique opportunity to not only return to her original creation, but also end things on her own terms.
At a reunion panel last summer, Sherman-Paladino commented on her disappointment in not being a part of the series finale: “It’s always a bummer when you don’t get to end it. I had hoped maybe that there would have been a call, ‘Hey, it’s the last episode, do you want to come back?’ And there wasn’t. But that’s OK, that’s not the way it works in Hollywood where there are rules.”
True fans of the show are thrilled that Sherman-Paladino’s original vision will (at least in some ways) prevail!
