I cannot remember a time in my life when I was more disappointed than when I turned twelve. All throughout age eleven I was certain that the arrival of my acceptance letter from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry was imminent. When my letter was late, I told myself the owl carrying my letter just didn’t know how to get to Minnesota. Or something like that.
Alas, my letter never arrived. I believed Hogwarts would only ever remain an untouchable dream trapped in the pages of a book and on the silver screen.
In 2010, my dreams came to life. Cue Hedwig’s Theme.
I traveled by broomstick (aka airplane, but it’s fine) to sunny Orlando, Florida to finally see Harry Potter World. It was as amazing then as it was when I visited a few days ago. In honor of the awesomeness of the park, I decided to compile a list of a few things Harry Potter World nailed (although there are definitely plenty more).
- Hogwarts Castle
First of all, whoever was in charge of the design of Harry Potter World, I would like to shake their hand and buy them a butterbeer. The castle itself stands majestically over Hogsmeade and Hagrid’s hut. Don’t mind me as I stay here forever and wait to be escorted to my Gryffindor hall, thanks.
Literally. Nailed it. It’s almost not okay how addictive and delicious this stuff is. I mean, I’m not complaining. I’m just saying I can’t be held responsible if I blow $20 on four glasses of it…
3. Dragon Challenge Ride
My curiosity of what it would feel like to ride on the back of a dragon is cured. Forever.
4. Ollivanders Wand Shop
Although wind did not blow back my hair as an angelic light surrounded me when I picked up my wand, I definitely felt pretty awesome.
5. The Hogwarts Express
*easily the oldest person on the train without children* *casually sheds tears of joy*
6. Weasley’s Wizarding Wheezes
Everything about the shop is perfect. PERFECT. From the outlandish exterior to the adorable Pygmy Puffs, everything about Weasley’s Wizarding Wheezes is amazing and exactly how I imagined it to be. Except for Fred…there is no Fred…
If you’re looking for a good ole time, Harry Potter World is the place to be. If you’re like me, still waiting for that Hogwarts letter, then walking across the bridge from Jurassic Park and looking up to see Hogwarts Castle rising above the snow capped roofs of Hogsmeade, will feel like coming home.
