The summer isn’t over quite yet and we have the five upcoming albums to refresh your beach or road trip playlists. Here are the five albums we’re the most excited to listen to:
1. The Great Unknown – Rob Thomas
The latest solo effort from the Matchbox Twenty front man will most likely be more of a pop-based record than his previous releases, based on early single “Trust You.” Though I’m not the biggest fan of that song, as a loyal Matchbox Twenty follower, I will give the album a chance.
Release Date: August 21
2. Badlands – Halsey
Blue-haired newcomer Halsey (aka Ashley Frangipane) has already brought her Jersey-bred swagger to bold singles, “Hold Me Down” and “New Americana,” and Imagine Dragons took notice, bringing her on their Smoke + Mirrors tour. If you haven’t heard her yet, Halsey is one to watch.
Release Date: August 28th
3. So There – Ben Folds
On his fourth solo album, Ben Folds proves that he’s still got it, even twenty years after his band Ben Folds Five debuted their self-titled first album. Not one to keep things boring, Folds has described his new album as chamber rock, along with a piano concerto with the Nashville Symphony. If single “Capable of Anything” is any indication, Folds is still utilizing his lyrical skills while keeping things fresh and interesting.
Release Date: September 11th
4. Pagans in Vegas – Metric
At this point I’ll listen to anything that Metric puts out, and I’ve had theire latest single “The Shade” on repeat all summer. The band’s unique blend of indie rock and synthpop with semi-dystopian lyrics may not appeal to everyone, but lead singer Emily Haines’ vocals keep it all from sounding disjointed. For a band that’s been making music since 2003, their songs still sound completely relevant and their sound has evolved over the years.
Release Date: September 18th
5.Every Open Eye – Chvrches
Scottish electro-pop outfit Chvrches’ debut album, The Bones of What You Believe, jam-packed with lead singer Lauren Mayberry’s breathy vocals and synth-beats, established the band as one to watch. Based on the response to insanely catchy singles “Leave a Trace” and “Neverending Circles,” Every Open Eye is poised to be another well-deserved hit.
Release Date: September 24th
