Katy Perry the highest-earning non-boxer that has stolen the spot as #3 on the list of Forbes Highest Paying Celebrities of 2015.
With an estimated net worth of 210 million dollars, she is the third richest singer who debuted after 2000. Currently on her world tour, she has made two million dollars per show, now accumulating 60 percent of her income from foreign markets.
“It felt so wrong, it felt so right-don’t mean I’m in love tonight.”
Pop singer Katy Perry was destined for stardom after her classic hit “I Kissed A Girl” was heard by every single radio station across the nation in 2008. Everyone was singing along, and Katy’s name was spread around even more after she released singles “Waking Up in Vegas” and “Hot ‘N Cold” off of her debut album, “One of the Boys.”
If that’s not enough, just two years later Katy released another album, “Teenage Dream.” She made pop history to become the first woman artist to have five singles off of the same album all hit number one on the charts surpassing the Beatles, Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson and Madonna.
“This is the part of me that you’re never going to ever take away from me.”
I supported Katy’s music from the start, but her movie “Part of Me” is what really sold me. (Yes I cried) The documentary showed her entire story to fame up until her “Teenage Dream Tour” in 2012. She had a vision of where she wanted to go, and worked for it her whole life. From then on, I made it my goal to see her perform live.
Nearly eight years later after her first single, Katy is currently on her Prismatic World Tour. Major singles off of her album “Prism” include “Roar,” “Dark Horse,” “Birthday,” and “This Is How We Do.”
Now, I wouldn’t expect anything less than an amazing performance from the crazy, strong-willed pop star, but I can barely gather words together to describe how unbelievably breathtaking her show was. Not only did she have quick changes in the blink of an eye, but her props were crazy. Every little part of her show was planned out and so different from any artist I’ve ever seen. She flew around the audience on a hot-air balloon swing, drove around in a fake blown-up car, and had a giant “birthday” chair.
“If you wanna dance, if you want it all- you know that I’m the girl that you should call.”
The absolute best part was when she told everyone to put on the “prismatic glasses.” These were like those 3D glasses you would wear at the movies-except they made everything you look at turn into prism shapes. When you looked at the stage and all the lights, it was this crazy-trippy experience I’ll never forget. What artist even thinks of that idea?! Her show was a flawless masterpiece that I’m not sure anyone could ever compare to.
“I got the eye of the tiger, a fighter, dancing through the fire
‘Cause I am a champion and you’re gonna hear me roar.”
So, I constantly hear “Beyoncé is a goddess,” and yeah she’s great. But is she the only one? The pop stars in the industry go on and on between Lady GaGa, Taylor Swift, Jessie J, Adele, Charlie XCX, Ke$ha, Rhianna, Kelly Clarkson, and so many more.
As for Katy, I believe that she has something different. Her style is quirky yet sophisticated and lyrics range from pop-y and fun to deep and emotional. No one can deny catching themselves singing along to one of her many hit songs and even breaking out in dance.
With five American Music Awards, five MTV Music Video Awards, 14 People’s Choice Awards, a total of 69 consecutive weeks on the Billboard Top 100, the first female artist to have an album with five number one Billboard singles, 11 million albums sold and 81 million singles worldwide, the first female artist to reach 1 billion views on Vevo, AND a world tour totaling 135 million dollars- Katy Perry is definitely one to reckon with.
